What to do if the tomatoes are "yellow"? See what experts say

Recently, when the reporter visited the tomato greenhouse planting area in Xixiaozhai Village, Yangling District, Yangling Demonstration Area, Shaanxi Province, tomato yellow leaf curl virus disease appeared in the greenhouses of many growers, and some of them even showed yellowing. According to reports, the tomato planting area in the greenhouse around Xixiaozhai covers an area of more than 200 acres, and most of them are seriously affected by yellow leaf curl virus.

"At present, seven or eight sheds have changed their seedlings, and the cost of changing the seedlings is about 1,500 yuan per mu. I have to change my seedlings after I harvest the first stubble in this greenhouse." Master Planter Yuan said.

It is understood that tomato yellow leaf curl virus disease is an explosive and devastating disease in tomato planting and production, and the transmission rate is extremely fast. After the occurrence of this virus, the affected tomato plants are dwarfed, grow slowly or stagnate, the top leaves fade green, yellow, become smaller, the edges of the leaves roll up, the leaves become thicker, the leaves become harder, and the veins on the back of the leaves are often purple. The infected plants in the early stages of development are severely dwarfed and cannot flower and bear fruit normally. In the late stages of development, only the upper leaves and sprouts of the infected plants show symptoms. As a result, the number of fruits is reduced, the fruits become smaller, and the fruits in the mature stage are unevenly colored, which basically loses commercial value.

Chang Zongtang, an associate researcher at Northwest A & F University, suggested that the following methods should be followed for the control of tomato yellow leaf curl virus:

1. Select Ty-resistant seeds, disinfect the seeds, and cultivate disease-free and insect-free seedlings.

2. Strengthen field management. If sporadic diseased plants are found in the shed, remove them immediately and take them out of the field to bury or burn them. Minimize other personnel to scatter randomly. When carrying out agricultural operations such as bundling, pruning, and forklifting, healthy plants should be treated first, and diseased plants should be treated later to reduce human transmission. At the same time, pay attention to prevent weeds around the shed and reduce the field parasites of Bemisia tabaci.

3. Insect nets are set up to prevent the entry of Bemisia tabaci adults, and yellow traps are set up inside to play a dual role of early warning trapping.

4. Fumigation method. Fumigation method uses the controllability of the greenhouse and the volatility of chemical pesticides to prevent and control chemical pesticide fumigation. For example, in a greenhouse of about 350 square meters, take 300 ~ 400 ml of 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate, mix with sawdust or wheat bran of about 7.5 kg, and evenly divide it into about 60 small piles in the evening. Greenhouse for 8-12 hours. Let it volatilize naturally and smoke whitefly. For each square meter, use 0.35 ml of 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate and 0.025 to 0.05 ml of 25% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate, and add 0.025 ml of anti-dilute solution.
